HVACC: HistView - Server / Application Changes (Mandatory Software Update!)
Sunday, September 15, 2002 - 02:01 PM

KPS Open-3 Major changes to the HistView system have been made this weekend. As of Sun 9/15/2002, 9:00 am, all older versions of the histview pc application will lose the ability to update new monthly files via the web.

HistView is a Windows program that allows monthly report data to be downloaded from our web site, graphed, printed, compared, and so on.

To get HistView running again on your system.
(1) Call Monitoring Center and get your new username and password.
(2) Download new HistView Software (link in upper left once you are signed on to the web site).
(3) Install HistView Software.
(4) Run HistView from Desktop, enter web site user name and password.

Scope of changes and reasons.
(1) Property List for each user now stored on web site. No configuration comes from the client except username and password. (the hvsites.exe site specific distribution file is gone).
(2) HistView data files (csv "comma seperated values") accessble via browser and execl from web site.
(3) Server changed from a Microsoft FTP server to a Apache HTTP server. The change from FTP to HTTP was necessary to eliminate many problems that our larger customers have been having with coorperate firewalls (many block ftp). The change from a Microsoft NT server running IIS to a Linux Server running Apache was to eliminate the constant stream of security issues and virus problems that attach IIS and to integrate the histview monthly data files tighter with our web site.

Note: New HistView Server is up! New HistView version is released. Beta copy of new CP version is downloadable as a patch.

 HVACC: Saftronics 5010S Smart Bypass
Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 11:51 PM

Saftronics Drives Saftronics has a new innovative drive plus smart bypass package called the 5010S. The 5010S is a GP10 Drive wired into a specialized HVAC control board and display panel. The most noteable feature of the 5010S is its ability to switch to an across the line operation when running at 100% (a drive running at 100% is more expensive to run than an across the line starter). The 5010S requires a laptop running saftronics software to setup and commission.

Saftronics Manuals
Saftronics 5010S Brochure

Communications options with the 5010S become a function of the saftronics control board instead of the GP10 drive. Saftronics does not have a LonWorks FT10 interface at this time.

Note: Due to the added complexity, extra components, and the requirement of a laptop for commissioning, I would limit installations of this bypass package to applications where significant periods of 100% operation are expected. [Editorial Opinion]
